Radiation monitoring

The competence "Radiation Control" is aimed at creating a professional growth environment in which participants demonstrate and improve their skills in conducting dosimetric and radiometric measurements of various types of ionizing radiation, conducting radiation monitoring and processing measurement results. To achieve high results in the championship, it is necessary to know the regulatory framework in the field of radiation safety, be able to correctly choose and use personal protective equipment in conditions of radiation danger, quickly master and apply measurement methods, and learn new radiation and dosimetric monitoring devices. The competence has been included in the AtomSkills Championship since 2017.

Content of the competence

Team work

Competence Team

Work on the competence is individual.
The contest task is completed by the participant and the score is given to the participant.

Team composition

1 participant + 1 expert

Expert team
  1. Expert Mentor
List of participants
  1. Participant
  2. The following persons are allowed to perform competitive tasks::
  3. at least 18 years old
  4. those who have no medical contraindications to performing competitive tasks for health reasons
  5. those who have been trained in occupational safety and health under the "Occupational Safety and Health Training Program"
  6. Approved to work with ionizing radiation sources

Completing and evaluating a task

Team members complete a technical task

24 hours
=
  • Day 18 hours.
  • Day 2-8 hours.
  • Day 3-8 hours.

Evaluation The minimum number of experts in the evaluation group is 4 people. A measurable rating is given by 3 experts who are not mentors in relation to the participant. Expert # 4 is required to replace the mentor expert in case of evaluation of its participant.
Experts are specialists with practical experience in the field of radiation safety and radiation monitoring. Experts are trained in verification methods and tools. The results are evaluated by experts at the end of each competition day. .

Evaluation

Checking the level

Each specialist is tested for the level of proficiency in two groups of knowledge and skills

Knowledge and skill groups

Point system

  • Health check and preparation for operation of measuring instruments
  • Measurement of dose, dose rate
  • Measurement of ionizing radiation flux density, level of radioactive contamination of surfaces
  • Design, documentation and presentation of measurement results
  • Requirements of regulatory documentation in the field of Belarus
  • Individual dosimetric control
  • Safety and production culture

General professional skills that are universal for the team

Evaluating skills

Skills are evaluated through the quality and effectiveness of work actions.

Labor action groups
  • Criterion A. Radiation biathlon
Speed of performing measurements. Determination of the type of ionizing radiation. Calculating source characteristics
  • Criterion B. Radiation examination of a room
Search for indoor sources. Registration of radiation control results
  • Criterion C. Radiation inspection of an object
Search for sources on the coordinate grid. Determination of the type of ionizing radiation. Calculating source characteristics
  • Criterion D.Radiation examination of an employee
Search for sources of radioactive contamination of the employee. Registration of radiation control results. Assessment of employee radiation doses.
  • Criterion E.Theoretical task
Knowledge of federal regulations and regulations in the field of the use of atomic energy. Knowledge of sanitary regulations on radiation safety
