Design Engineer (CAD Engineering Design)

The "Design Engineer (CAD Engineering Design)" competence defines a set of skills in using computer modeling technology in computer-aided design systems (hereinafter referred to as CAD) in preparing electronic models, drawings and files containing all the information necessary for manufacturing and documenting parts and assembly units for solving mechanical engineering problems faced by industry employees. Solutions must comply with industry standards and the current version of the ESCD. This competence is based on the skills and knowledge of such specialists as: draftsman-designer, technician, design engineer.

Team work

Competence Team

Format participation in the "Design Engineer" competence is individual. The contest task is completed by the participant, then the evaluation is made by experts

Rating group
  1. Companion Expert 1
  2. Expert-patriot 2
  3. Expert-patriot 3
  4. Companion Expert 4

The minimum number of experts in the evaluation group is 4 people. A measurable and judicial rating is given by 3 non-patriot experts in relation to the participant. Expert # 4 is required to replace a fellow citizen in case of evaluation of its participant.

Completing and evaluating a task

Participants independently complete the task of each competitive module

22 hours
=
  • 3 days for 6 hours.
  • 1 day 4 hours.

Experts are trained in verification methods and tools.
The results are evaluated by experts at the end of each competition day (or on the next competition day).

Competitive task

Structure of the competition task

The competition task includes three-dimensional modeling of mechanisms, designing new devices according to the technical specification, and working with a measuring tool. The competition task consists of four independent modules, in which participants need to demonstrate their skills:

Module A.

Making changes to the product design (design design according to technical specifications) and creating a prototype of the object;

Module B.

Machine-building production;

Module C.

Mechanical assembly and development of drawings for production;

Module D.

Construction based on a physical model or digital data

Evaluation

Checking the level

Each specialist is tested for the level of proficiency in two groups of knowledge and skills

Knowledge and skill groups

Professional skills based on the participant's specialization

  • read drawings, diagrams, and graphs
  • use the specification when reading assembly drawings and diagrams
  • develop assembly, dimensional and assembly drawings and general drawings, as well as perform detailing of assembly drawings
  • draw up drawings in accordance with the ESCD
  • create diagrams, specifications, and various tables

General professional skills based on the participant's specialization

  • perform technical calculations based on source data in accordance with developed programs and techniques or standard calculations
  • ability to provide modeling of machines, electric drives, hydraulic drives, hydro-pneumatic automation equipment, systems, various complexes, processes, equipment and technical objects and technological processes using standard packages and computer-aided design tools

Evaluating skills

Skills are evaluated through the quality and effectiveness of work actions.

Labor action groups

Measurable evaluation criteria are used to evaluate the quality of the task: the correctness of the dimensional calculation, the conditions for assembling the device, making changes taking into account all the requirements for the technical task, and completing drawings in accordance with the ESCD. To assess the performance of assembly and disassembly schemes, the functioning of image devices, measurable and judicial ratings are used: professionalism
